Dave Insley

At The White Horse

Last Saturday, Let’s Dance dropped into the Austin east-side; The White Horse and found Dave Insley in the house.  Right away I began to appreciate Dave’s deep baritone vocals and gradually his unique musical style,  blending a honky tonk two stepping beat with a Tex-Mex Arizona Hill Billy Bakersfield sound.

His own brand of ‘desert-bent’ sense of humor comes through in Dave Insley’s original works one of which is I Promised You an Easy Life  and There’s Gonna Be a Few Changes. Even when Dave sings cover songs, he puts his brand on them. I especially like Dead and Gone and Don’t Take It Away. Be prepared though for some surprises such as Sixteen Tons and Big iron On His Hip.

The minute I walked in the White horse I knew I wanted to hear more of Dave Insley and after his first set invited Dave to a big part of Let’s Dance and we subsequently featured him on our entertainment page. And entertaining is what he does. Dave takes any song and makes it uniquely his but always mindful that his fans like to dance. You can catch Dave Insley and his Careless Smokers just about any Saturday at the White Horse. You will be glad you did.
